Profica shines again with double ACPM Awards

Profica, a Pan-African construction solutions company, has once again demonstrated its excellence in project management by winning two Association of Construction Project Managers (ACPM) Excellence Awards. The company scooped up awards in the International Private Sector category for the Barclays Bank Head office in Zambia and the National Private Sector category for the Sawmill Packshed project in the Western Cape.

Profica has been recognised by ACPM with numerous awards over the years. Last year, the company won two awards in the same categories for Gerrard Place in Lagos, Nigeria, and the Netcare Alberton Hospital in South Africa.

Profica CEO Tim White expressed pride in the recognition from this respected industry body that promotes excellence in project delivery through industry leadership. “It’s an honour to receive this recognition from an organisation that champions superior project delivery and industry leadership. To deliver excellence in our work across Africa, every team member needs to have the right expertise, local insight, skill, and ability to see around corners! We’re committed to overcoming challenges and continuing to succeed in projects across the continent.”

The ACPM Excellence Awards assess projects based on their distinction, superiority, and superlative characteristics. The criteria also consider the impact on the environment, social investment, innovation, and sustainability, benchmarking submissions against globally accepted project management standards.

Award-winning projects

The Sawmill Packshed project is located in Wemmershoek, Western Cape. It covers approximately 12,000 square meters and was completed in November 2022. The project’s design features large cold rooms, forced cooling tunnels, de-greening rooms, an ammonia plant room, and a large mezzanine office area overlooking the production line.

One of the distinct characteristics of the Sawmill Packshed project is its saw-tooth roof design which blends in harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. In addition to the aesthetic and functional design, the project posed a complex task of setting up cold rooms and de-greening rooms. The installation of a state-of-the-art equipment line, imported from France, also added to the complexity. Profica navigated these challenges with precision, employing meticulous management strategies and working in close coordination with contractors. By addressing issues proactively and strategically, they ensured that the project was successfully completed to meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

The Barclays Bank Zambia Head office project involved relocating the headquarters of the bank from a congested Central Business District. Two separate offices were merged into one more collaborative, open-plan environment to facilitate the evolving workplace culture.

Profica’s success in these projects is a testament to its commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainable practices. The company continues to set the bar high in the construction project management industry.
