‘Women at Profica are real power houses!’ says senior interior designer, Karyn Jardine. A career highlight for this design all-rounder has been working on 1 Discovery Place, Sandton – a 87000m² fit-out project. She is inspired by the cultural diversity of Africa and intent on delivering workplace design that delivers real value and functionality, without compromising aesthetics.
1. What inspires you to get up in the morning?
Definitely working with a dedicated and talented team that brings massive work experience to the table. We’re able to collaborate on providing the best possible solution to our clients for the design of their interiors and successful delivery of their projects.
2. What do you most love about what you do?
I am passionate about interiors that function for the end user. So, while we maintain a high level of aesthetics, I am adamant on the product being of real value and utility.
3. What advice would you give to other young women that want to be in this industry?
You will spend many long hours on mastering your craft in the built environment, but remind yourself of how lucky you are, to not only have these opportunities, but also to be working in a creative field, where the work can be really inspirational.
4. What are some of the challenges you face working in a male dominated industry?
I have yet to experience real challenges, although women at times could have more of a sense of empowering other women. I think the time of inequalities in the workplace must make way for a more positive movement of equality. I would like to see women take on more leadership roles.
5. Why did you choose to work at Profica?
Profica has an incredible culture of excellence, which allows its employees to share their knowledge, empowering others. There is diversity, integrity and foresight which ultimately results in success! The footprint and accomplishments in Africa were also a very strong drawcard for me, as I am inspired by cultural diversity, specifically on our continent.
6. How does Profica support women within the organisation?
Women at Profica are real power houses! There is no gender disparity evident at all – it is 2019 after all! Women have a sense of agency at Profica and are held in their space with the utmost professionalism and guidance. A total breath of fresh air in the workplace!
