Profica delivers first Green Star-rated office interior in East Africa

Profica, a leading project management and construction solutions company, demonstrated its skill in green and sustainable building practices as the Principal Contractor for the Mastercard East Africa office interior design and fit-out in Nairobi, Kenya, delivering a turnkey solution. This project achieved a significant milestone as it is the first Green Star rated office in Kenya and East Africa.

Custom designed by Profica to align with Mastercard’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and reaching net-zero emissions by 2040, this office is a testament to sustainable innovation. Located in The Promenade, an EDGE-rated building in Nairobi, Kenya, the custom-designed interior fit-out not only creates a healthy and productive work environment but also minimises operational costs and environmental impact. Achieving a 4 Star Green Star Africa Interiors v1 certification further reinforces this commitment, demonstrating African best practice in sustainable building.

The Mastercard East Africa office incorporates numerous sustainable features. It follows the Biophilia framework, referencing nature in design to enhance mood and creativity while reducing stress. Indoor plants are abundant, providing a connection to nature, and responsibly sourced furniture, assemblies, and flooring are used throughout. A wellness and mothers lactation room are contributes to a holistic user experience.

Additionally, measures have been taken to optimise air quality and reduce water and energy consumption. Low VOC emissions adhesives, sealants, and carpets contribute to superior air quality. The office also leverages natural daylight, motion-sensor light fixtures, and energy-efficient lighting power density. Water-saving measures include actuators fitted on WC’s and urinals, and an integrated Building Management System (BMS) records and logs air quality, energy, and water usage in real time.

This project underscores Profica’s dedication to sustainable building practices and sets a new standard for office spaces in East Africa.
