Women’s Month: Aysha Alexander – a bright career in property development and investment ahead

Meet Aysha who is cutting her teeth in the property industry as a Development Management Intern in the Johannesburg office, and loving the world class mentoring she is experiencing.

What does your role at Profica entail?
I help the Development Management team with various opportunities and projects. This includes opportunity assessments and reviews, tender replies and financial modelling. I also work with external parties on projects.

What is your favourite part of working at Profica?
I enjoy the exposure and experience I’m gaining as I learn on a daily basis, and of course the people I get to work with. The mentorship at Profica is world class.

How did you start your career in the property industry?
I studied a Property degree at UCT and have now started to gain experience in the Property industry here at Profica.

What do you believe your greatest strengths are?
Always putting my mind to whatever is given to me and trying my best at it. I also always have a positive take on life. I am a strong believer in what you put out into the universe, is what you get back.

What has been the biggest success of your career so far?
I was the lead person in putting together a Proptech presentation and document. Sections of this outlined how companies and people need to embrace and work with technology. I am also thinking about how to do this in future projects.

What really inspires you?
Listening to different people’s intelligent views on life and what is going on around them. I’m really interested in anything futuristic, especially the way people will live and interact in the future.

What do you believe you’re good at, outside of work?
I love to go running and walking outdoors. I also enjoy art and being creative. And I really enjoy socialising!

What are the greatest challenges you’re dealing with right now?
It has been a challenge not being able to have the freedom to do anything due to lockdown restrictions. Fortunately, this is changing now.

How would you like to see the industry change in the next ten years?
I would like to see more women playing a role in the Property Development and Investment arena.
