Women in Workplace Solutions – Charne Greyling

August is Women’s Month in South Africa and we’re getting to know Profica’s inspirational team of women in workplace solutions. Charne Greyling works in the Profica head-office in Rivonia, Sandton, as an intern junior designer, assisting the design team with technical drawings and specific sections of projects. Green-fingered, creative and musical, Charne is inspired by nature and loves taking care of her indoor plants. Something you’d never guess – she’s a skilled drummer!

WHAT ARE THE WORKPLACE SOLUTIONS TRENDS YOU’RE SEEING IN YOUR REGION?
There is an ongoing move to open plan layouts to cater for a more interactive way of communicating in the work environment. We’re also seeing a move to “hot desking”, where employees are able to come into the office only if they need to, and don’t necessarily have a dedicated desk.

WHAT ARE THE KEY PROJECTS YOU’VE WORKED ON DURING YOUR CAREER?
I worked on Novartis Ghana, provided joinery detail drawings for One Abidjan and technical drawings for Bayer Abidjan. I’ve started a new project with United Wireless, a tech company.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST INSPIRING PROJECT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
Working on an off-grid architecture project where I learned so much about sustainable design.

WHAT, IN YOUR VIEW, ARE KEY CONSIDERATIONS FOR A CLIENT WANTING TO OPTIMISE THEIR WORKPLACE?
Allow for enough natural light to enter the work environment. Have a calming and consistent flow throughout the workplace.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE INDUSTRY CHANGE IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS?
I’d like to see technology that boosts productivity and performance, while still allowing for more creative brainstorming sessions.

WHAT REALLY MOTIVATES AND INSPIRES YOU?
Being in nature and around creative minds.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF WORKING AT PROFICA?
The amount of growth that I have already experienced in my first two months. I am excited about where this learning curve will lead.
